Welcome to Eastern*Hues.
and panels on our bags
are hand-woven from either silk or cotton in my home village of Churachandpur, Manipur in North Eastern India.
Some of the weavers are from my own family.
The material is usually used for punns – our version of the sarong.
Our village has been weaving these particular patterns for so many centuries that no one I know knows exactly how many.
Each village has its own patterns.
The fabric is woven by a man or a woman working on a loin loom
